From Orchard to Glass: Growing Our Own Yuzu

We’re excited to introduce Monin Yuzu Pineapple Syrup! In an exciting first for Monin, this new syrup is made with yuzu citrus grown in our very own orchard in Portugal. Yuzu Pineapple Syrup combines bold flavor with a strong commitment to sustainability and quality, creating an unforgettable blend.

Sustainable Citrus

Our 74-acre orchard, home to 25,000 yuzu trees, is located in Portugal’s Alentejo region, which shares a latitude with traditional yuzu-growing areas like Japan. This ensures the fruit retains its signature aromatic and tart profile. By growing yuzu ourselves, we guarantee both quality and a sustainable supply chain, and the experience has deepened our connection to our ingredients.

Agroecological Farming

At Monin, we believe we must all play a part in being stewards of our ecosystems. Through organic, agroecological practices such as minimal tillage and promoting biodiversity, we aim to protect the land and produce high-quality fruit. We’ve used agroecological methods from day one, which give the trees a strong foundation in healthy, biodiverse soil and protect the surrounding environment, both crucial elements of our goals for long-term resilience. Our zero-waste approach means using the juice for our flavorings and the peel for essential oils, benefiting local goods produced by the surrounding community.

Expanding for the Future

To meet growing demand, we intend to expand our orchard to 110 acres by 2030, with plans to supply the majority of our global yuzu juice needs directly from our orchard. Growing our own yuzu aligns with our commitment to responsible sourcing, and allows us to offer our customers greater ingredient transparency and sustainable sourcing.
