Summer of the Agua Fresca

Cool down on a hot day with a refreshing and thirst quenching Agua Fresca. Agua frescas are a popular beverage in Mexico and southern parts of the U.S. where the temperatures tend to get very hot. Typically, the drink is blended with ripe fruit and cool water along with flowers, seeds or grains and sweetened with sugar. The beauty of the agua fresca is that you never have to waste fruit that has over-ripened, because it makes the tastiest drinks! It’s common to see these drinks prepared in batches and served from a large dispenser, but you can easily make these by the glass as well. All you need is fresh fruit, your favorite Monin Syrup (to add sweetness and enhance flavor), cold filtered water, a blender and ice. If you’re feeling fancy, add some fresh herbs to the mix. Depending on the ripeness of the fruit being used, adding a squeeze of fresh lemon or lime juice will help balance the drink. Add all the ingredients to the blender and blend until liquefied. Serve straight from the blender or pour mixture over fresh ice to keep it extra cold and refreshing. Now you have an amazing, healthier fruit beverage that will hydrate and cool you down even on the hottest of days! Find a few of my favorite recipes below. - Lisa Tip: If using a fruit with lots of seeds, like blackberries, you may want to fine strain prior to drinking.
